Loch Shiel
Elmbank Selfcatering is situated in the heart of the West Highlands of Scotland in the secluded village of Acharacle, within easy reach of the local shop, post office and restaurant. This makes Elmbank the ideal base for touring and exploring this spectacular area with its stunning views of Loch Shiel, Ben Resipole and The Hills of Moidart. Photogenic sunsets can be seen over the distant peaks of the Hebridean Isles of Rhum, Eigg and Muck.

Acharacle lies in the Ardnamurchan and Moidart area known in Gaelic as 'An Garbh Chriochan' (The Rough Bounds), an area of rugged stunning beauty steeped in the history that shaped modern Scotland. In was here that Bonnie Prince Charlie began his Jacobite rebellion of 1745 to reclaim the crown of Scotland culminating in the bloody defeat at The Battle Of Culloden Moor, and where it all ended with his daring escape to France.

The stunning landscape is home to many blockbuster movies including Braveheart, Rob Roy, Harry Potter, Local Hero, Highlander and many more.

The Ardnamurchan Penninsula is the most westerly point of the UK mainland popular with walkers, bird watchers and cyclists.

Acharacle village is 46 miles west of Fort William by the Lochailort/Glenuig coastal route or 35 miles west of Fort William via the Corran - Ardgour Ferry (5 minute crossing).
